Four members of a family, including an 8-month-old baby, were abducted from a business on Monday, authorities said.

Jasdeep Singh and Jasleen Kaur were kidnapped “against their will” in Merced, California, along with their daughter, Aroohi Dheri. Amandeep Singh, the baby’s uncle, was also taken.

The family was kidnapped at gunpoint from the company. The Merced County Sheriff’s Office said they believe the attacker is still armed and dangerous.

The Sheriff’s Office did not say which company the family came from, only that it was on the 800 block of California Highway 59.

Sheriff Vern Warnke said investigators have no idea why the family was targeted. “We have no motivation behind it. We just know they’re gone,” he said in a message to facebook on Tuesday.

The Sheriff’s Office has also released photos of a possible suspect, who can be seen on surveillance camera footage wearing a black hoodie and a blue surgical mask to cover his face.

The sheriff said he was fair-skinned and had a shaved head.

It is not clear whether more suspects in the case are looking for one or more suspects. “We have evidence to identify the individuals involved in this destroyed evidence in an effort to cover their tracks,” Warnke said in his message on Tuesday.

Warnke said the Sheriff’s Office has deployed investigators to search the area while also searching for aircraft above the ground.

“To my knowledge there has been no contact, no ransom demands, nothing from the suspect,” he said.

Warnke pleaded with anyone with information about the crime or suspect to contact the sheriff’s office. “We need to get this family home safely,” he said.

Merced is a city of approximately 86,000 residents in the rural Central Valley region of California. It is approximately 110 miles south of Sacramento and 55 miles northwest of Fresno.
