Where is the Canopy by Hilton London City?

Just behind Aldgate High Street, the Canopy by Hilton, London Town, is close to all the action.

The nearest tube station is Aldgate and Fenchurch Street is just a five minute walk away.

Instead of purely taking care of the usual pinstripe city brigade, the new concept has met an informal coffee shop Silicone Valley campus atmosphere.

No jackets and ties for the friendly check-in staff, just open shirts and a big smile.

The hotel is worth a visit for the incredible food in the Penny Squares restaurant alone!

What is there to do at the Canopy by Hilton London City?

All the decor at Canopy Hotels themed to reflect local cultures, the art here gives a nod to the Huguenot silk weavers who settled nearby Spitalfields in the 17th century (well worth a visit).

They’ll even lend you a free Canopy-branded bike to explore the neighborhood in carbon-neutral comfort if you haven’t done enough cardio at the on-site gym.

What is there to eat and drink at the Canopy by Hilton London City?

Like Spitalfieldsfoodie heaven at loan market and Brick Lane are within walking distance.

But it’s worth saving space to sample the East End-inspired dishes at the hotel’s Penny Squares restaurant.

The tapas style menu has a Middle Eastern theme.

Tamarind marinated cod with coconut dahl, baby squid and curry oil is flaky and fragrant.

And the Za’atar braised beef cheek with crushed cumin celeriac, garlic spinach and thyme sauce was too good to share.

Half a dozen dishes comfortably feed four people – and that’s without the warm vanilla kataifi with nutella and hazelnut ice cream for pudding.

Meanwhile it is Freedom Caffenamed after Freedom Press Publishing House on Whitechapel High Street, have the cocktail menu printed on a house newspaper.

Their take on the espresso martini – called London City Spice – was a caffeine favorite.

How are the rooms at the Canopy by Hilton London City?

The custom-made eco-building is bursting with green references.

There are no plastic water bottles in the rooms, only reusable glass bottles that can be refilled with filtered water.

Each room gets a monsoon walk-in shower, a Nespresso machine and the traditional hotel slippers have been given the boot, replaced with a comfy pair of warm slipper socks.
