The Scottish Prime Minister took to Twitter to celebrate the Prime Minister’s impeachment and used the event to capitalize on her push for a new independence referendum.
She said: “There will be a widespread sense of relief that the chaos of recent days (months indeed) will come to an end, although the idea of Boris Johnson staying on as prime minister until the fall seems far from ideal and certainly untenable. .” †
“Boris Johnson was always clearly unfit to be Prime Minister and the Tories should never have elected him their leader or kept him in office for so long. But the problems run much deeper than one person. The Westminster system is broken.”
She went on to say no Tory MP would be elected in Scotland, calling Labor “brexit-supporting” no different from the Tories.
She then took the opportunity to push again for a second independence referendum, which she plans to hold on October 19 next year if approved by the Supreme Court.
She added: “For Scotland, the democratic deficit inherent in Westminster’s government will not be resolved with a change of Prime Minister. None of the alternative Tory Prime Ministers would ever be elected in Scotland. And in policy terms it’s hard to see what real difference hard Brexit supporting Labor offers.
“Independence will only happen if a majority living in Scotland chooses it – but it is undoubtedly the real and permanent alternative to Westminster, and the opportunity to fulfill our potential at home and play our role as good citizens of the world. It is time for that choice.”
The Scottish Prime Minister wished the outgoing Prime Minister well on a personal level, saying that “leadership is difficult”.
She said: “Finally, my differences with Boris Johnson are many and profound. But leadership is difficult and involves a lot of tension and tension, so on a personal level I wish him and his family the best.”
