Armando Broja has signed a new six-year contract with Chelsea who will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2028.

It was reported in August that Blues owner Todd Boehly was keen to tie many of the club’s best young players to new long-term contracts, including Broja, Mason Mount and Reece James.

The 20-year-old impressed on loan at Southampton last season, scoring nine goals in 38 games across all competitions and drawing favorable comparisons to former Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

As result, Thomas Tuchel chose not to sell or lend the player for this campaign, despite great interest from, among others, West HamEverton and Newcastle.

He has been on the bench three times so far this season, all from the bench, as he slowly moves up to the first team, but will now face competition from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on deadline day.

“I really can’t figure it out, I’m just thinking about it,” said the Albanian international when extending his contract.

“It’s the club I’ve dreamed of playing all my life, the club I support and the club I love. I’ve been here since I was a boy, so it’s a surreal feeling for me and my family.

“Being able to put on the blue shirt with the first team is a dream come true. It’s amazing every minute that you get to play on the pitch, because this is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“There’s always competition and everyone wants to play, so I’m just happy to have the chance to be a part of it. Hopefully I’ll play a lot of games and be part of the team’s success.”

Broja came through Chelsea’s academy and made his senior debut in 2020, already on a contract that ran until 2026.

Adding his joy at the new deal, Boehly said: “We are delighted that Armando has committed himself to Chelsea. He is a young and exciting striker and a big part of our plans for the future.”

Chelsea’s next game is at home to West Ham on Saturday, with Tuchel’s side aiming to get back on track after a disappointing start to the season that left them 10th in the standings.
