Rep. Liz Cheney, the vice chair of the House selection committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, said during the public hearing on Tuesday that former President Donald Trump attempted to contact a witness who has not yet been released publicly. committee has appeared.

“It’s a crime to tamper with witnesses, and we want that message out, so no one can say they’re surprised about that,” Raskin said.
At the hearing two weeks ago, Cheney said some of the witnesses who have appeared before the committee have received messages from some members of Trump’s inner circle. She read some of the lyrics, including one that said, “He wants me to let you know he’s thinking of you. He knows you’re loyal.’
She said a witness told the panel they had received calls.
“What they said to me is that as long as I stay a team player, they know I’m on the team, I’m doing the right thing, I’m protecting who I’m supposed to protect, you know, I’m staying in good graces in Trump World,” said Cheney, quoting the witness. “And they reminded me a few times that Trump reads transcripts, and to keep that in mind as I went through the statements and interviews with the committee.”
Another witness, according to Cheney, said they received a call in which the caller said, “[A person] let me know you have your statement tomorrow. He wants me to let you know that he is thinking of you. He knows that you are loyal and that you will do the right thing if you go for your statement.’
“Most Americans know that attempts to influence witnesses to testify falsely raise very serious concerns,” Cheney concluded, noting that the committee will discuss how to proceed.
The House Committee on Jan. 6 spoke with more than 100 witnesses, and so far 15 witnesses have testified in seven public hearings. They also showed clips of recorded testimony from other witnesses, including former Attorney General William Barr, Trump White House adviser Pat Cipollone, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.
