In a heartwarming act of kindness, Cold playfrontman Chris Martin noted one fan's experience BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend unforgettable.
Saundra Glenn, a 64-year-old resident of Lutonwas struggling to reach the festival's accessible box office due to osteoarthritis and problems with her hip, knee and ankle when the singer picked her up and gave her a lift.
When Saundra told people about the interaction on social media, she said that Chris is single, which seems to suggest that he has broken up with his longtime partner. Dakota Johnson.
While it's hard to know if Saundra actually knows this, the message sent fans into a frenzy as rumors spread online that Chris and Dakota have called off their engagement.
Chris and the 50 Shades of Gray actress have been dating since 2017 and reportedly got engaged earlier this year.
Saundra posted about Chris' act of kindness on Blooms great. I can't believe this happened. What a decent guy.
'We also had a nice conversation. He is single and loves #Luton
'Thanks again @BBCR1. #GreatWeekend #SeeMyLuton'
The interaction took place as Saundra was on her way to the venue, and exhausted and close to giving up, she leaned against a fence when a black Mercedes truck pulled up next to her.
To her surprise, the woman in the front seat offered her a ride, and to her even greater surprise, Chris Martin himself was in the backseat.
“The back door slid back and Chris Martin was in the back seat,” Ms Glenn told the PA news agency.
'I looked at him and said (to the woman in the passenger seat), “I can't get in, that's Chris Martin.” He says: “Yes, that's possible, just come in.”'
Saundra took to
Once in the car, Saundra and Chris chatted about various topics, including her community work in Luton.
“He said, 'It's nice to hear what you're doing,'” she said.
'I said I'll be 65 this summer, he said, 'You don't look it' and that I shouldn't worry about my age and just keep doing what I was doing. He seems like a really decent person and I told him that… I said, 'You're just a really nice person.'
The unexpected meeting did not end there. Saundra took several selfies with the star, who even teased her about a special surprise he had planned for his set that night.
Coldplay would perform a new song called Orange in tribute to Luton Town FC following a successful fan campaign.
“He told me he was going to do something special at the end. I said, 'Go ahead, are you changing from yellow to orange?' He said, 'I can't tell you that, but I can say, wait until the end – I'm doing something special, and that was special.'”
While many celebrated the singer's kind gesture, some fans took note of the mention that Chris is single, responding to Saundra's post asking if he had really revealed that things were over with Johnson.
Before parting ways, Chris ensured that Saundra received dedicated assistance to reach her destination within the festival.
He instructed the staff to accompany her in a buggy all the way to the accessible area, where she could enjoy the concert in comfort. “They didn't leave me until I had my wristband on – that's how dedicated they were,” she said.
Saundra described the experience as one of the best she has had in a long time. 'I got to the stage where you can sit and I saw Chris' set. It was a fantastic experience last night, it's the best thing I've done in a long, long time.'
Reflecting on the event, she called on people to 'be more Chris Martin'.
She added: “He has shown that kindness rules the world. Be more Chris Martin – be more that humble guy who doesn't mind picking up an OAP – even if it's a handsome, young-looking OAP – and giving her a ride to help her out.”
Later that night, Coldplay played a brand new song in honor of it Luton Town FC.
Chris had already expressed his fear that the band would play their song Yellow and insulting the crowd – the color worn by the Hatters' arch-rivals, Watford.
A campaign was launched by Luton fans to change the lyrics to orange, but the band went one step further and played a whole new song in honor of the local club.
Martin told the audience: 'It reached me a while ago… that there were people in Luton who were concerned or dissatisfied and perhaps even angry about the concept of our band coming here and singing a song called Yellow, and because… of the Hatters and Kenilworth Road and the Luton Town Football Club,” he continued.
“So they said, 'There's a campaign, they want to kill you and you'll never leave Luton alive', and I said, 'That would be a great way to go, and that would cement our legacy. forever and that would be a great movie.” And so I'm okay with them killing me.
“But if they don't, maybe we'll get to the end of this show, the end of the concert, and I can say, 'Thank you so much for singing the song Yellow, even though it went against all your principles . “.'
The annual music event took place this weekend in Stockwood Park, Luton with performances by Sabrina Timmerman, Ollie AlexanderAJ Tracey, Chase and Status, Raye, Rudimental, Charli XCXand much more.
