A Christchurch builder has been charged with alleged tax evasion totaling $300,000.

Christopher David Win appeared in Christchurch court on Friday before Judge Brian Callaghan.

The 39-year-old from Woolston faces 40 charges totaling about $300,000, the court heard.

Nineteen charges relate to GST and income tax, with 21 charges to PAYE.

The alleged crime took place in Christchurch between August 2017 and August 2020.

Win was released to appear in court on August 19.
