The very first teaser for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has come out – and it looks intense.
Cillian Murphy stars as J Robert Oppenheimer, the man behind the atomic bomb, in the film, which also features a star-studded cast including Florence Pugh, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr.
In the new teaser, which counts down to the exact moment of the film’s release in just under a year, Emily Blunt, who plays Oppenheimer’s wife Kitty, hears say, “The world is changing, reshaping. This is your moment.’
When Cillian’s character is first seen in black and white, we hear, “You gave him the power to self-destruct and made him the most important man who ever lived.”
As the countdown begins, Robert Downey Jr’s character is heard saying, “The man who move the earth.”
In addition to the incredible cast, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz, Michael Angarano and Sir Kenneth Branagh.
Oppenheimer is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
Written and directed by Nolan, the film marks the sixth collaboration between him and Cillian following the actor’s appearance as Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow, in the Dark Knight trilogy, as well as his role as Robert Fischer in Inception and a small cameo in Dunkirk. .
However, it is the first time that he has a lead role in one of the director’s films.
Speaking of preparing for the role, Peaky Blinders actor Cillian explained: to The Guardian: ‘[I prepped by doing] a lot of reading material.
‘I’m interested in the man and what’ [inventing the atomic bomb] does for the individual. The mechanics of them, that’s not really my thing – I don’t have the intellectual capacity to understand them, but these contradictory characters are fascinating.’
It may be 11 more months, but we already know that Oppenheimer will face some…intriguing competition, with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie releasing on the same day.
Let the battle begin.
Oppenheimer is scheduled for release on July 21, 2023.
