“She’s not going to live in Washington under any circumstances!” Coleen Rooney’s Friends Say She “Hates” America And Won’t Join Her Husband Wayne Because He Agrees To A $1 Million A Year Deal To Become DC United Manager
- Wayne Rooney, 36, has agreed terms to coach the DC United football team
- Former England striker, who is married to Coleen Rooney, played there in 2018
- But Coleen, 36, struggled to settle down, calling Washington ‘quite behind the UK’
- Now a friend has said the mother of four won’t be moving to the United States
Coleen Rooney told friends she hates America and wouldn’t move there with her husband Wayne if he returned to Washington to work for DC United.
Now a move to the United States seems imminent for former Manchester United striker Rooney, 36, after reports that he has agreed on contract terms to become the new Major League Soccer team coach.
He was filmed arriving at Dulles Airport on Sunday night without Coleen and their four children as he returned to the dugout of the club where he played in 2018 and 2019.
A source close to Coleen, 36, told MailOnline: “She has made her point clear to Wayne. She definitely doesn’t want to go to Washington. The last time she absolutely hated it there.
“She doesn’t want to live outside the North West of England, let alone live in Washington again. The family is more settled than ever. They have four children who all go to school and all of Coleen’s family lives close to her.’
Coleen Rooney (pictured today shopping in Alderley Edge, Cheshire) has told friends she hates the United States and has no intention of joining her husband Wayne.
The former England captain landed at Washington’s Dulles Airport on Sunday night as he prepares to finalize his deal to take charge of the MLS club.
According to a source close to Coleen, the mother of four (pictured with Wayne and their sons Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass) is based in the North West of England and wants to stay there
The source added: “There’s no way she would want to give all that up to live in a place she hates.”
Ironically, Rooney’s possible move comes as friends claim he and Coleen have never been ‘together’ again, especially after the way he publicly supported her during the £3 million Wagatha Christie libel lawsuit against Rebekah Vardy.
One of them said: ‘Wayne and Coleen’s relationship is the best in a long time. He supported her 100 percent through the libel trial, appeared in court every day, and stood by his wife.
Rooney scored 25 goals in 52 appearances for DC United during two years as a player there
“They have just enjoyed a wonderful summer break with the kids, the longest they’ve had in ages, given Wayne’s past football commitments. As a couple and family they have never been happier and more united.”
The Washington Post reported that Rooney is about to strike a deal, with the ex-England attacker telling reporters and fans at the airport that he has “a few things to sort out.”
It claimed he will receive at least $1 million (£830,000) annually and will act as an adviser to DC United until he gets a work permit, which typically takes two to three weeks.
Coleen’s distaste for the US capital was reflected in leaked 2018 text messages sent to Vardy during Wagatha Christie’s libel trial.
In response to Vardy asking how it went, the Liverpooler replied: ‘Hiya, I hope you’re all week’ [well]† We’re okay, but it’s hard to be alone.
Coleen went on to say, “Washington isn’t the best… fun to visit, but different to live in. Not much to do for the kids, mostly park, hardly any soft play and stuff like that. It’s quite behind the UK which I never would have thought. But we’ll get used to it (I hope). “Wayne loves it, and the kids are doing well, going straight to school. So really glad they are ok. Thanks for the message dear xx.’
Coleen, 36, pictured here with husband Wayne, has told friends their marriage is as strong as it’s ever been – but she’s made clear her thoughts on crossing the Atlantic to Wayne
After the high-profile ‘Wagatha Cristie’ case, the Rooneys went to Dubai with Coleen (pictured with her four sons) and described the break as the ‘best family holiday’
In a separate post, she admitted she “never believed in homesickness” until she left the UK, adding that she “cryed every night” because she missed her family at home.
After the high-profile libel lawsuit was concluded, the Rooneys flew to Dubai while Coleen posted photos of the family enjoying their holiday in the sun on social media.
Coleen captioned the images with the words: ‘We had the best family vacation 2022. Dubai, you were fantastic #thankful❤️.’
