Commonwealth Games: When can you see the Kiwis in action?

Commonwealth Games: When can you see the Kiwis in action?

Today, 6 o’clock

Opening Ceremony

Stand up! Or watch the replay later. Often cheesy, always too long and regularly too concerned with what uniforms the athletes are wearing. But the beauty of these opening ceremonies is that you never really know what to expect. And don’t forget that the last time – London 2012 – England did a great job hosting an event like this. Most people now associate Birmingham with Peaky Blindersand the ceremony is literally organized by the creator of the show.

Tonight, 10pm

Men’s Triathlon

The women’s race, featuring legendary Bermuda champion Flora Duffy, follows at 1am. But Kiwi’s best hopes for gold are in the men’s, where Tokyo bronze medalist Hayden Wilde is one of the favourites. Expect him to jostle with English hero Alex Yee at the front.

Tomorrow, 3.41-5.03 o’clock

Final track cycling

I warned you to set your alarm. New Zealand cyclists won more than a third of the country’s 46 medals on the Gold Coast four years ago, and we should be lining up for great success on the track.

Sunday, 3:22 AM – 5:17 AM

Track cycling individual final

Aaron Gate, Ellesse Andrews, Bryony Botha, the great Sam Webster – medals in.

Sunday, 6:43 am, 7:49 am and 8:05 am

Swimming final

Lewis Clareburt (200m freestyle and 400 IM) and Andrew Jeffcoat (100m backstroke) are Kiwi’s great hopes.

Monday, 2.53am-5.42am

Track cycling individual final

Yes, more of them. There are many cycling events, okay.

Monday, 6.35 am

Para swimming final

Sophie Pascoe is the reigning queen, but look for Tupou Neiufi to seize her own chance to shine.

Monday, 8.38 am

Final sevens ladies

What a great time for what should be the feature rugby game in Birmingham. If all goes well, the beautiful Black Ferns Sevens will be in it. The men’s final will follow at 9.04 am.

Tuesday, from 6.33 am

3×3 basketball semifinals

Have fun, and the Kiwis are in the medal hunt.

Tuesday, from 7.30 pm

bowls

There’s action on the greens most days, but this could be the night when New Zealand’s men’s pairs and women’s fours compete for gold.

Wednesday, 10.30 p.m.

mountain biking

Sam Gaze and Anton Cooper finished 1-2 four years ago. What chance of recurrence?

Thursday, 5 am and 6 am

Squash singles final

Paul Coll is a hot favorite for gold – after winning silver in 2018 – in the men’s tournament, and Joelle King has a good chance of a medal in the women’s tournament.

Thursday, 5 o’clock

Weightlifting over 109kg for men

David Liti. Who doesn’t love David Liti?

Thursday, 6 o’clock

Men’s high jump

Hamish Kerr was a surprise package at the Olympics but is one of the favorites in Birmingham.

Thursday, 6.35 am

Ladies 100m

Run, Zoe Hobbs. Run like the wind.

Thursday, 7:05 a.m.

Women’s Shot Put

Cap off what could be a great morning, sit back with your fourth cup and watch Valerie Ad…sorry, old habits…watch the very cool Maddi Wesche crank it up.

August 6, 6.06 am

Shot put men

Then tune in to the big boys two days later. Tom Walsh against Jacko Gill against the rest. Everything is possible.

August 7, 3:30 a.m.

Men’s bowling singles

The New Zealand bowling team won a single medal in 2018. Shannon McIlroy has the talent to perform in Birmingham.

August 7, 6:00 a.m.

Women’s Hammer Throw

Julia Ratcliffe wants to win back-to-back gold.

August 7, 7 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Cycling road race

The women come first before the men, and New Zealand has a lot of hopes for medals.

August 8, 2 a.m.

Hockey final ladies

Can the Black Sticks strike gold again? The men’s final is at 11 p.m.

August 8, 4 o’clock

Cricket final

The White Ferns – it’s only women’s cricket in Birmingham – will hopefully put a bad 50-over World Cup behind them and do well in the T20 format.

August 8, 6:00 a.m.

Squash mixed doubles final

Coll and King are eager to outdo the bronze they won on the Gold Coast.

August 8, 7.30 am

Netball final

Another great time for what should be a new classic. The Silver Ferns were terrible on an epic scale during the 2018 Games, but there will be disappointment if they don’t at least make it to the finals this year.

August 9, 7:15 a.m.

Closing Ceremony

Just a chance for the athletes to loosen up and walk around and take selfies, really.
