Hustler’s star Constance Wue has returned to social media after nearly three years, revealing that she felt she “didn’t even deserve to be alive anymore” after trolling online.

In 2019, the actress experienced backlash after she appeared upset by the renewal of her TV show Fresh Off The Boatlater apologized, explaining, “I was temporarily upset yesterday, not because I hate the show, but because its renewal meant giving up on another project that I was really passionate about.”

In a new post she shared on social media, she has now revealed that the trolling she endured prompted her to avoid social media for nearly three years.

“Tbh, I’m a little scared, but I dip my toe back in to say I’m here and while I was away I wrote a book called Making a Scene. This next part is hard to talk about… but I was scared to come back on social media because it almost killed me,” said the Crazy Rich Asians star.

“Three years ago, when I posted careless tweets about the revamp of my TV show, it caused outrage and internet shaming that got pretty serious. I felt terrible about what I had said, and when a couple of DMs from a fellow Asian actress told me I was going to be a plague to the Asian-American community, I felt like I didn’t even deserve to live anymore . That I was a disgrace to AsAms, and that they would be better off without me.”

The 40-year-old added: “Looking back, it’s unreal that a few DMs convinced me to end my own life, but that’s what happened. Fortunately, a friend found me and rushed me to the emergency room.’

Wu said it was a “terrifying moment” that left her with “reassessing a lot in my life,” so she put her “career aside” for the next few years so she could focus on her mental health.

‘AsAms talks too little about mental health. While we celebrate Representatives’ victories quickly, much is avoided around the more inconvenient issues within our community,” she said.

“Even my tweets became a topic so sensitive that most of my AsAm colleagues decided it was time to either avoid me or exclude me. I admit it hurt a lot, but it also made me realize how important it is to reach out and care for those who are struggling.”

Wu outlined to her the reason she wrote her book “And Why I’m Here Today” – “to help people talk about the uncomfortable things to understand it, take it into account and open paths to healing.”

‘If we want to be seen, really seen… we all have to show ourselves, including the parts we are afraid of or ashamed of – parts that, however imperfect, need care and attention. And we need to stop beating each other (and ourselves) when we do.

“So while my book isn’t always the most flattering view, it’s as honest as I can be. For the truth is that I am not balanced or graceful or perfect. I am emotional. I make mistakes… a lot!’

Wu said that after “a short break from Hollywood and a lot of therapy,” she now feels “OK enough” to return to social media, though she added, “At least for a little bit.”

“And even though I’m scared, I’ve decided I owe it to the me-of-three years ago to be brave and share my story so it can help someone with theirs,” she concluded.

Under her statement, Wu shared a link to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, in which he wrote, “If you or someone you know is considering suicide, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255 ), text “STRENGTH” to the Crisis Text Line at 741-741 or go to https://988lifeline.org/.’
