Audrey Roberts’ (Sue Nicholls) recent fall made her think a lot about her life in Coronation Street and soon she decided to make some changes.

At the top of her list is the change and updating of her will, which leaves the Platt family immediately determined to impress Audrey, and thinks it will increase their chances of getting a larger share of her estate.

Audrey sits down for lunch at the Bistro and tells her family that she is leaving her money to WARTS (Weatherfield Association of Retail Traders) in memory of her late husband Alfie.

It is understandable that the news is not what Audrey’s family expected, but there is another twist to this story as Sue Nicholls explains: ‘They are all terrified! And then she walks away, and Stephen finds her in Victoria Gardens, and she trusts him that she did it just to teach them all a lesson, because she feels they’re just waiting for her to die. ‘

Audrey’s son, Stephen (Todd Boyce) has made quite an impact on the family since his return last week.

For Gail (Helen Worth), she feels a little out of place, convinced that Audrey prefers her son over her and that Stephen can do absolutely nothing wrong.

While Stephen may look like a friendly, caring man at the moment, we do not know what lies ahead and surprisingly, neither does Sue!

“I do not read screenplays or invent storylines so ignorance is happiness, she trusts him implicitly,” she said as she reflected on Stephen and Audrey’s time together recently.

‘He can do nothing wrong and she sees nothing wrong with it, as she does not disinherit them, even though they have done things that were deceptive and disloyal, so she is not really interested in how they feel about it. She just does it her way and has some control over it. Stephen is the one person who gave her no reason to believe that he had anything other than her best interests at heart. ‘

Looking ahead, Sue teased: ‘Now the family is fighting over her will which gives her a real sense of her own mortality and it’s not a nice thing to think about.

‘Stephen is there and supports her, but he has other things happening in his life and she does not want to keep him from his businesses. There is still a lot to get into this storyline and I really hope it will resonate and get people talking about their own circumstances. ‘
