29 deaths have been reported in the past five days. None of the dead fell in Nelson-Marlborough.
The latest numbers continue to rise in cases, bringing the seven-day moving average for New Zealand to 9,710, compared to 7591 on the same day last week.
In its daily statement, the ministry said the increase was being closely monitored and urged people to continue wearing masks to prevent the virus from spreading.
“The increase in cases and hospitalizations highlights the importance of everyone doing the basics right to help prevent infection and serious illness. In particular, people should stay home if they are not feeling well, do a rapid antigen test (RAT) and upload the result to MyCovidRecord, and isolate if they are positive or still symptomatic.”
You must wear a mask on public transport and at transport hubs such as airports and bus stations, in public places such as museums and libraries, when visiting a health service and in shops such as supermarkets and shopping centers.
People are also urged to wear masks in outdoor public indoor settings and in poorly ventilated areas, or when it is difficult to physically distance themselves from other people.
“The more layers of protection we put in — such as wearing masks, vaccinating and staying home when sick — the more we reduce the risk of spreading respiratory viruses,” the ministry said in a statement.
