The final phase of work in the area will begin on Monday, November 14. The Christchurch road is being upgraded with new center islands, footpath and curb and canal along the section south of the Christchurch Northern Corridor.
“This section of the Christchurch Northern Corridor crosses some particularly soft ground next to the Dudley Creek diversion,” said Jacob Bradbury, Christchurch City Council Planning and Delivery Manager.
“We expected some settlement to come over time, so we’ve waited with this final stage of work until it settled down.”
The work is expected to take approximately three weeks. One lane on the east side of the road will be closed and a speed limit of 30 km/h applies.
Bradbury said to help with traffic movements, work will shift to either side of the road to accommodate morning and evening rush hour traffic.
“The more disruptive works, such as removing and re-leveling the existing road surface, sealing and line markings, will be done at night when there are fewer vehicles on the road. These works are scheduled from 8pm to 6am from Sunday, December 4 to Tuesday 6 a.m. December The road will be closed during these times and there will be diversions.
“The work is being funded through a cost-sharing agreement concluded through the CNC Alliance – Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Christchurch City Council, Fulton Hogan, Aurecon and Jacobs.”
