Diablo Immortal Has Been A Controversial Game Since It Was First Announced By Blizzard at its BlizzCon event in November 2018. Fans of the earlier Diablo action RPG games made for PC and consoles were upset that they thought it was a dumb version of the game for mobile devices. Others complained that while the game would officially be free to play, it would also support microtransactions, which would speed up character leveling among other things.

However, it seems that despite mixed reviews, Diablo Immortal has already become a big money generator for Blizzard and the game’s co-developer NetEase. A new report from the app analytics company Sensor Tower claims the game has made more than $100 million since its launch for both mobile and PC in its first eight weeks.
Sensor Tower says the game is at the top of the big video game IPs that made the jump to mobile. It said Nintendo’s Fire Emblem Heroes needed 10 weeks to reach the $100 million mark, while Fortnite needed 12 weeks and Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire needed 22 weeks to reach that level. However, the launch of Diablo Immortal was still way behind the release of Pokémon Go, which took just two weeks to hit that sales milestone.
At the moment, Sensor Tower claims that Diablo Immortal is the 13th highest ranked mobile game in the world in terms of monetization. It is also the fourth largest mobile RPG and the second largest MMORPG, after another NetEase game, Fantasy Westward Journey.
The game could see another big boost in sales thanks to its release in China on July 25. Sensor Tower says it became the second largest mobile game, in terms of revenue, in that country on July 26, after PUBG Mobile. Currently, the US is the number one market for the game. It will be interesting to see if Diablo Immortal can continue to be a big money maker for publisher Activision Blizzard.
