When did the trains stop on Christmas Day?

The last train to run on Christmas Day was in 1964.

The reason behind the cessation of service is explained by the Association of Train Operating Companies, which says, “After 1948, train services declined on Christmas Day.”

The number got worse in the 1950s and the reason for that is that “cars were more accessible.”

That’s why they decided to give their staff a break and stop running trains on Christmas Day.

Does TfL run on Christmas Day?

Transport for London followed in the footsteps of the railways and decided to close their stations over Christmas as well.

The last tube to run over Christmas was in 1979 and from then on all of them London Underground operations stopped on the special vacation.

This means that buses, trams, pipes and overground trains are not running.
