Google Maps is an extremely useful app or website – there is no denying it.
You can use it on your smartphone, your tablet or your desktop to help you plan your route from A to B.
When used as a SatNav, it will start with: shows drivers not only the fastest, but also the most environmentally friendly routes – and, if you need privacy, it even offers an incognito mode.
Of course, Google Maps can help you get to somewhere specific that isn’t marked on the map by dropping a pin on each location shown and providing an address.
You can then use the pin to give you driving or walking routes so you don’t get lost along the way.

Drop a pin on Google Maps step by step
On desktop just go to google.com/maps start.
Once you’ve opened the map, all you need to do is find roughly where you want to go.
For example, if you know you’re going to a park near the Eiffel Tower, search for “Eiffel Tower” in the search bar first. Or search the map by dragging your mouse across the screen.
Once you’ve found your destination, just click on the exact spot you want to reach and a small gray pushpin will appear.
A white box will appear somewhere on your screen with a name, zip code, address and coordinates.
In the same white box is a blue arrow. Click on either one to display a sidebar, giving you directions to your destination.
The process is very similar for smartphones – both on Android and iPhone.
Just open the Google Maps app and start searching for a destination or exploring the map by scrolling.
Once you’ve found where you want to put a pin, all you have to do is tap – but it’s quite a long tap, which you have to hold for a second or two before a red pin appears.
A white box will appear at the bottom of your screen with the name of the place you pinned, along with an address.
There will also be blue buttons showing you ‘directions’ and giving you the option to save your PIN.
