According to emergency services, a rare tornado killed at least one person and injured 10 in a coastal city in the southwestern part of the Netherlands.

The whirlwind left traces of damage in the seaside town of Zierikzee, blowing off the roofs of four homes and collapsing the front of one home.

Locals compared the horrifying sights to “war zones” and “vacuum-cleaned rooms.”

Roof tiles and garden furniture destroyed houses, cars, and everything else on the tornado road, and were sent high into the hair.

The town’s safety committee declared an emergency and warned that the incident could affect the surrounding area.

According to the Dutch Meteorological Agency Weerplaza, the whirlwind began on the water and then moved ashore.

“Unfortunately, the tornado killed one person, and the first impression was about 10 more injured,” Zeeland safety officials said in a statement.

Paramedics have asked people to leave the area because they do not interfere with the work of police and fire brigades and because of the danger of tiles and branches falling.

Tornadoes are extreme weather events often referred to as “trunks” under storms, where water vapor condenses inside a vortex before lifting material from the surface.

The Netherlands experiences several tornadoes a year, but the last deadly tornado that hit the country was in 1992, NOS said.

He also described objects flying just a few meters away from home. “What looked like roof tiles, garden pools, tents”.

The last deadly tornado in the Netherlands occurred over 30 years ago in Ameland, off the north coast of the Netherlands.

One person was killed and five were injured in a twister in August 1992.

In August 2019, a weak tornado struck Amsterdam, leaving no one injured.
