Dwayne Johnson may be known for his physique, but the actor revealed that even he struggled to keep up with the workout regimen for his latest movie Black Adam.

The former wrestler, 50, revealed he chose to shun using a muscle suit for the role, instead spending hours in the gym to change into the muscular supervillain.

Dwayne revealed to Men’s health“That was our goal, for me to bring in the best physique possible. So the challenge with that is not just setting the bar high – and that’s fine. . . bring it on! – but then you realize that you have to keep that up for months.’

He added: “What’s interesting is we could have said, ‘F**k this – put the muscle pads in the suit’, as they normally do.

And it’s not a blow to my friends at all, but I felt like, “Let’s be disruptive and let’s do it differently.” Let’s take out all the muscle pads, which we did, from Black Adam.

“When you’re wearing that suit, you see every detail. Man it was constant work, constant tweaking, tweaking, tweaking for months on end.’

Dwayne, better known as The Rock, also revealed that he is a “creature of habit” and has been known to eat the same thing every day for weeks and months to keep his fitness at peak levels.

He learned the habit from his own father, former professional wrestler Rocky Johnson, adding, “He taught me very early on not to eat to please the tongue, but to eat to nourish the body.” He taught me that when I was five. That’s probably why I need therapy.’

Dwayne has also learned over the years that he needs to listen to his own body when it comes to training and has learned when the pain he feels means he needs to stop an exercise and when it’s something he can continue.

The athlete also uses the gym to improve his mental health, admitting: ‘During the period when I fell into depression and was challenged, the gym became my best friend – and I know it is for a lot of people.

“You can go to the gym to sweat out toxins and gain a little more clarity when you walk out the door.” It won’t solve the problem, but it will help.’
