EastEnders forced off BBC One in major schedule shake-up as Wimbledon kicks off

EASTENDERS has been scrapped from BBC One for the first time ever in favor of Wimbledon coverage.

The long-running soap has found a temporary new home on BBC Two for the duration of the two-week tennis tournament.

It airs in its usual timeslot of 7.30pm Monday through Thursday.

The move has not proved popular with fans of Walford Square, with one writing on Twitter: “What I’ve never understood is why the BBC insists on the BBC One evening schedule (One Show, EastEnders, etc) so that the Wimbledon- coverage on One. What’s wrong with tennis on Two?!”

In another effort to avoid clashes with sporting events, the soap will also be available in iPlayer in advance, with all of its week-long episodes starting at 6 a.m. Monday morning.

This step allows audiences to watch the program whenever and wherever it suits them on BBC iPlayer, or they can tune in while the episodes are broadcast on BBC One.

The Mitchells will be at the center of the drama this summer as Phil makes a deadly enemy in prison, leaving him wondering if this is the end.

Meanwhile, Sam settles back neatly in the Square, but her true intentions will soon come into play with dire consequences.

Ben will also struggle with his gruesome rape. Despite Kathy’s support, his behavior threatens to spiral out of control.

Mitch Baker is shocked when his estranged brother, Avery, and two sons, Finlay and Felix, show up in the square.

It doesn’t take long for Mitch to realize that his brother is keeping a secret from him, but as always in Walford, things never stay secret for long.

Avery isn’t the only person keeping secrets, and the Panesar family will go through one of their hardest times yet as their loyalty is tested to the limit.

With secrets about to explode, tensions simmering and families close to breaking point, this summer in Albert Square will be anything but quiet.

Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer said: “With such a big summer of sports ahead of us, boxing all four episodes again this year feels like the perfect solution to allow EastEnders viewers to choose when and where to watch their want to get weekly fix from Albert Square.
