EastEnders icon speaks out about leaving and it could mean the end for her | Soaps

Reiss Colwell (Johnny Freeman) was desperate to flee Albert Square after his series of crimes in EastEndersbut things haven't gone as he planned – which could spell the end for Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy).

Earlier this week, after a visit from his wife Debbie's grieving parents, Reiss convinced Sonia to leave Walford behind for a while and pay Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) a visit.

After some persuasion, Sonia agreed and tonight's episode saw the couple preparing for their trip.

However, they soon realised that they needed someone to look after Jasper Parrot while they were away, so Sonia went to the Queen Vic to ask Martin Fowler (James Bye) to do the honors.

While there, she was teased by Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy), who joked that Sonia had deliberately killed Debbie.

She didn't know that Debbie had been murdered, but not by Sonia. It was actually Reiss who did the deedin an attempt to avoid incurring further debt due to the costs of her nursing home.

When Sonia stormed back home, Martin followed her and warned her that leaving the square would only fuel the gossip further. He pointed out that Debbie's mother was unlikely to 'keep her mouth shut' and urged her to be careful.

Sonia later admitted to Reiss that she thought it best to stay in Walford, much to his dismay.

Unbeknownst to Sonia, their escape was entirely predicated on Reiss trying to avoid the consequences of his actions – some of which are now fast approaching.

While Sonia and Martin were talking, Reiss was in the boxing gym with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), who threatened him with pain if he didn't get his stolen money back by Monday.

As time ran out for Reiss, he was left in an impossible position when Sonia decided not to stay in London.

However, this could spell her undoing as recent spoilers revealed that both she and Reiss will be arrested for Debbie's murder in the coming scenes.

As the couple enjoy their engagement party at the Vic, they are shocked when the police arrive.
