The government of Ebonyi state has debunked claims that a woman was murdered by herders in Southeast state.
There were claims of the corpse of a young lady from the village of Amaporo, found along a forest trail between the communities of Agbebor, Isu and Onicha-Igboze after she was allegedly murdered by herders on social media yesterday July 27.
Photos shared on social media showed the young lady lying lifeless on a pile of firewood with her throat slit.
In response to the claim, Ebonyi State Information Commissioner Uchenna Orji said there is so far no evidence linking the murder to herders.
Orji also stated that there are no shepherds living in the area and that the attack was carried out by criminal elements in the area while she was returning from a neighboring village.
Read the statement;
“Our attention has been drawn to a trending social media post about a young girl who was found dead in a village in Onicha Local Government Area, Ebonyi State and the impressions created about the circumstances of her death.
“While the state government condemns the ugly incident as an unacceptable brutal murder of an innocent civilian by heartless criminals, it is imperative to note that contrary to the claims circulating in social media that Fulani herders were responsible for her heinous murder, the community has not seen anything related to her death with the Fulani herders, furthermore, there is no shepherd camp in the area”
“The unfortunate incident is the handiwork of yet-to-be-identified criminals who attacked and killed the deceased on her way, via a road, back from where she went to process cassava in the village of Agbegbor in the Isu community, Onicha Local Government Area.
“The community, together with the security services, has announced a manhunt for the perpetrators. The state government extends its condolences to the victim’s family and assures them that the government will leave no stone unturned to expose the young girl’s killers.”
