Ekiti Police Prosecute Landlords Hosting Cult Members

Hoteliers, recreation/event center owners and landlords have been warned by Ekiti Police Commissioner Moronkeji Adesina not to allow cult members to use their properties for cult-related or criminal activities.

Adesina alerted cult members who were planning to hold an illegal ‘7/7’ annual celebration of cultism on Thursday, July 7, and warned that owners of facilities or homes used by cult members for the event or any cult-related or criminal activity would be prosecuted.

In a statement released by Ekiti Police Spokesperson Sunday Abutu and titled “Ekiti Police Command Declares ‘7/7’ Annual Celebration of Cultism Illegal, Criminal,” the state police commissioner told parents and guardians “to warn their departments to lawfully observe and refrain from any act, unlawful gathering or meeting before, during and after said date.”

The statement added;

“It was reliably established that on the said day of the celebration, new members would be inducted and there would be a power struggle usually marked by violence.

“Cults and other criminal elements should put an end to such illegal and unhealthy celebrations or any plan or action that could cause undue fear or alter the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed in the state.

“The CP has instructed area commanders, divisional police officers, division heads and tactical units to be alert, as the command also works with other security forces to nip in the bud any act that could jeopardize state peace.”

State residents were also asked to “be security conscious, vigilant and conduct their lawful business as adequate security measures are in place to ensure the safety of lives and property of all law-abiding citizens. The command urges everyone to support and cooperate with the police and other security officers by immediately reporting any suspicious movements or cult activity to the nearest police station or calling 08062335577/07031620186.”
