EMMERDALE’s Mary Goskirk kisses Vanessa Woodfield as she talks about her coming out in an upcoming episode.
Rhona’s mother – played by actress Louise Jameson in the ITV soap – recently opened to Kim Tate about the real reason she moved to the village.
Mary told Kim, “I moved here for three reasons: to work things out with my daughter, to make a fresh start, and to use that fresh start to be more open about myself.
“It turns out that, despite my wildest intentions, some things aren’t easy to say. I never spoke my truth.
“Oh God, I said my truth, I hate that. There is no such thing as my truth, there is only the truth.”
Kim asked her what that was and was shocked when she said, “I’m gay.”

She added: “Oh my god. I said it, it cost me my whole life, but I really said it.”
After telling Kim, Mary feels more confident in who she is, and in a subsequent episode, she talks to Vanessa, who is also gay.
The couple dressed up as puppies for Rhona’s bachelorette party prior to her wedding to Marlon.
As they sit outside chatting, Mary tells Vanessa about her sexuality, but Mary confuses her kindness for something else and leans forward to kiss her.
How will Vanessa react? And how will Rhona react if she finds out?
Previously, viewers were full of praise after Mary’s reveal to Kim.
One wrote: “Mary coming out to Kym in Emmerdale just made me cry. Such a sad story too.”
A second said: “Mary’s story is heartbreaking. So much love for her and this important storyline.”
Another said: “I love Mary, what a great addition to the cast. Both brave and beautiful.”
Emmerdale is broadcast on ITV and available on ITV Hub.
