After Emmerdale fans noticed newcomer Ella Forster (Paula Laan) hid a secret, a strong theory that she was somehow connected to Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) began to develop.
We all remember Meena – the serial killer responsible for the deaths of Leanna Cavanagh, Ben Tucker and Andrea Tate. She left our screens in 2022 after being accused of many crimes, but recently we started I wondered if we would ever see her again.
When Liam (Johnny McPherson) spoke openly about Leanna's murder, Ella's reaction made many fans suspicious. To make matters worse, we also learned that she had a boyfriend who encouraged her to become a nurse and what was Meena's career while she was in the village? A nurse.
The clues were scattered throughout Ella's storyline, so when the big reveal finally came, we were 99% sure she would go to tell Liam that she was somehow connected to the woman who murdered his daughter.
Oh, how wrong we were.
In a major episode of the ITV soap, Ella revealed that as a child, She killed her best friend.
Even though her character currently has no connection to Meena, actress Paula Lane isn't ruling it out completely, as she explained to us here:
“I enjoyed reading them because I just thought they were funny. Because of course there's no connection at all, unless she ran into her in prison. So you never know, their paths crossing could be a theory.”
“Most people didn't see that coming,” she said, describing fans' reaction to Ella's past.
“I've actually had a few messages, on social media for example. All very positive about the acting. But I think it does make you think. You know, where do you stand morally on this? Because of course I'm a mother. If someone did that to my child, I would find it incredibly difficult to forgive. That's the brilliant thing about this storyline, that you ask quite a lot of questions about it.
“Overall, I think people believe she's served her time. That's where the majority of me is, from what I've seen.”
As a result of her past, Ella has essentially been running her entire life. She tries to find a place to call home, her secret is discovered, and then she leaves – again and again.
In the Dales, however, things are a little different.
“Yes, thanks to the help of Mandy and Manpreet,” Paula replied when asked if the village has accepted Ella yet.

“And Liam, to a certain extent, people have been willing to mean happiness to me. I've kind of stepped away, actually. Oh, come on, we'll welcome you.”
“As time goes on, she goes to work at the vet. Because she and Liam can't work together anymore. And eventually she gets a job and that gives her a little bit more confidence because she and Tracy are up for the same job. There are some great scenes where Tracy is not one of the people who will accept her. She's really on the other side and she's not going to forget what she did.
'But it does give her more self-confidence when she goes back to work, gets more involved in the village and people get to know her for who she is. Apart from the past.'
