In Emmerdale’s 50th year you would expect a big summer and fall and the show certainly wants to pack a lot.

There hasn’t been a dry eye across the country after Faith Dingle’s (Sally Dexter) cancer diagnosis and acceptance of her fate when she took control and decided to stop treatment.

Amid tearful and poignant episodes featuring Cain and Chas (Jeff Hordley and Lucy Pargeter), there was also a dash of hope and laughter – and that won’t change as the story progresses.

Sparky Faith may be about to lose her life, but she hasn’t lost who she is and, as promised to Sarah earlier, she will make the most of the time she has left.

Cue mischief galore! But emotional times are never far away, with fans dreading the day when we have to say goodbye to one of the show’s most captivating characters.

Exactly how and when Faith’s final arc plays out remains to be seen, but we recommend investing stock in Kleenex.

Circling the tragedy is a messy situation for Chas, as she continues to throw sanity into an ill-advised affair with Al Chapman (Michael Wildman).

Chas thinks this is what she wants, but Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) will always be a victim of what’s going on.

How long can Chas get away with her clandestine encounters with Al? Will she regret the torrid affair?

And when will Paddy find out?

Cain, meanwhile, struggles to address his feelings around Faith’s illness, but he has recently made a major breakthrough.

And Jeff recently teased that there’s one more dramatic story in store for Cain as the 50th approaches, but he didn’t tease more than that.

However, Al will never be his favorite person, so a direction for the hard town man (with a soft center, of course) could be revenge when the affair with Chas comes to light.

As for Cain’s better half Moira (Natalie J Robb), tensions remain high after revelations from Suzy (Martelle Edinborough) that she knew Holly — and was with her before her tragic death.

The wedding fever seems to be taking over the village with two couples planning their wedding.

Marlon Dingle and Rhona Goskirk (Mark Charnock and Zoe Henry) look ahead to the future together, but this hasn’t been an easy road.

Marlon has experienced doubts about whether Rhona is simply marrying him out of sympathy, but on the other hand, he has taken important steps in his recovery.

The love between the couple is absolutely real and viewers will hope for a romantic outcome.

Elsewhere, preparations for Kim’s wedding to Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) are under pressure, but Kim is known to be quite demanding, so this will be stressful for the planners.

But after a turbulent time, will Kim and Will say that I do? Or will chaos redeem their hopes for marital bliss?

And there is also a surprising third wedding…

Speaking of wedding planners, Leyla Harding’s (Roxy Shahidi) downward spiral shows no signs of abating, though she’s more out of her depth than ever.

David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) is aware of her drug addiction and, although she says she can keep it under control, is this really the case?

And will her relationship with Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) last if he discovers the truth?

Addiction also destroys the life of Sandra Flaherty (Joanne Mitchell) and will have major consequences for her forgetful daughter.

Liv (Isobel Steele) is a rock to her alcoholic mother, unknowingly being cheated on by the spiteful Sandra.

Vinny (Bradley Johnson) and Mandy (Lisa Riley) sense something is wrong. Will Sandra be caught before her plot rips everything off Liv?

Elsewhere, other residents find themselves in dire straits, with Dawn’s decision to take Clemmie a bit hasty.

With a destructive past, is Dawn capable of taking on Clemmie – and will she face the long arm of the law for the way she’s handled it?

Nicola continues to recover from her ordeal, but as she takes bolder steps to overcome the PTSD she’s going through, she’s more determined to find justice – but will she get it?

Charles is on a mission to rebuild a relationship with his daughter Naomi, and Laurel is on a mission to make things right with Kit, but does she still have feelings for Jai?
