Here, Standard Sport’s Simon Collings looks at three key issues that could determine the outcome of a colossal clash between old rivals…
Bright needs to master Popp
England defender Millie Bright was one of the stars of Euro 2022, but she will have to do her best to stop German striker Alexandra Popp.
The 31-year-old is incredibly physical and seems to use her strength to bring others into play. Bright is a strong centre-back and she will have to push herself early to ensure Germany doesn’t get off to a quick start at Wembley.

Walsh key to tempo
England’s forwards stood out against Sweden, but it was their midfield that won them the match. Keira Walsh has flown under the radar this tournament, but she is vital to the Lionesses tap and dictate the pace of the game.
Germany will try to push England high on the pitch, so Walsh will be vital in ensuring they stay calm on the ball and find their way through the defence.
The striking impact of Mead
Beth Mead is the joint top scorer of this tournament with six. She is on fire and hopes the run continues at Wembley on Sunday.
Mead has also developed a crucial talent for scoring big goals, most notably England’s winner in the opening game and their first in the semi-final, which paved the way for Sweden’s defeat.
A goal against Germany for 90,000 would top that and set her on the path to becoming a national hero.
