The Epic Games Store has finally launched in the European Union, offering gamers ways to access games on their iPhone without going through the App Store.
After the long and expensive legal battle about payments and competing app storefronts, as well as issues with notarial confirmationEpic Games has managed to bring a digital store to the App storeThe Epic Games Store, a competitor to the App Store, went live on Friday.
The Epic Games Store is launch with a selection of games including Fortnite, Rocket League Sideways MoveAnd Fallen boys.
More games are coming, as Epic says it is working to allow all developers to launch games and apps through its storefront in the future. Epic is also bring his games to other independent mobile storefronts, such as AltStore PAL.
Only EU users can install the Epic Games Store and its content, as Epic refers to in his announcementEpic acknowledges that the Digital Markets Act has made its availability in Europe possible, but continues to insist that Apple “still has all the other iOS users outside Europe of access Fortnite and Epic Games Store for iOS.”
“The tide is turning and the mobile ecosystem is finally opening up to competition,” said Epic Games CEO and founder Tim Sweeney. “We are grateful to the European Commission for making it possible to launch the Epic Games Store and offer our games to iOS users in the European Union.”
While “the battle is far from over,” Sweeney adds that the launch of the store “is tangible progress for developers and consumers who can benefit from competition and choice.”
