A little over four years ago, Fortnite DELETED from the App Store and Google Play for attempting to circumvent Apple and Google’s payment systems for in-game purchases of their in-game currency V-Bucks. The game studio began a long legal battle against Apple and Google, culminating in today’s official launch of the Epic Games Store for iOS and Android.
Fortnite is officially back on mobile for Android users worldwide and iOS users in the EU. It’s also joined by Rocket League Sideswipe and Fall Guys, with the latter making its official mobile debut. You’ll need an iPhone running iOS 17.6, while the Android system requirement is Android 7.0 or later. The download file is 25MB. Epic has confirmed that Fortnite and Fall Guys will feature full functionality and cross-platform account progression.
The tide is turning, and the mobile ecosystem is finally opening up to competition. We are grateful to the European Commission for making it possible to launch the Epic Games Store and offer our games to iOS users in the European Union. Now, European iOS users and all Android users can access our store and games just as they always could on open platforms like PC and Mac. The fight is far from over, but this is tangible progress for developers and consumers who can begin to benefit from competition and choice.” – Tim Sweeney, CEO and Founder of Epic Games
Epic Games’ mobile titles are also available on AltStore PAL starting today, and will soon be coming to the Aptoide Store for iOS and One Store for Android. Epic also plans to bring its games to more third-party app stores in the future. Epic also plans to launch exclusive games for its mobile store.
