Slowhand…fast car: Eric Clapton, 77, fined £124 for speeding in his Porsche

  • Sussex police accused him of failing to provide information about his identity
  • Clapton got three points on his driver’s license for a separate speeding violation
  • He received a ticket after he was caught too hard on October 28 last year

He is one of the most famous musicians in the world.

But maybe the officers who ran over Eric Clapton weren’t fans of legendary guitarists.

Sussex police accused the 77-year-old of failing to provide information about his identity when he was detained in his Porsche.

But the charges were dropped this week with no further details.

However, Clapton was given three penalty points on his driver’s license after pleading guilty to a separate speeding offense at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

He received a speeding ticket in the mail not long after he was caught driving more than 60mph on the A24 in West Grinstead, West Sussex, on October 28 last year, it turned out last night.

The musician – who is estimated to have a fortune of £190 million – was also fined £146 and ordered to pay a victim allowance of £34 and £90 in court costs.

Clapton was subsequently charged with failing to provide his identity to a police officer on February 1 at a location in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex.

The circumstances of the second alleged offense remained unclear last night, but he was charged with “failing to provide information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle, namely [Clapton’s] Porsche, who is alleged to have committed a criminal offence.”

The guitarist, known as ‘Slowhand’, has not had to go to court over the October speeding charge after the case was decided by a magistrate under the ‘joint proceedings’.

In 2016, he was caught on camera after being stopped by police in his Porsche at a Little Chef restaurant. Representatives for Clapton did not respond to requests for comment last night.
