Erik ten Hag raises expectations Manchester United his team has to win every game they play and that’s what he wants to do as a manager.

The Dutchman got off to the worst possible start as Red Devils boss last weekend, losing at home to Brighton in his first Premier League game he’s bossed.

The 2-1 defeat was disappointing, but so was last season’s lack of progress, with United often looking just as disjointed and fragile as they were under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralph Rangnick during the last campaign.

Ten Hag knows that there is a huge amount of work to be done, in the transfer market and on the training field, but is also aware that he has to get results while that work is being done.

In fact, he believes anything less than winning every match they play is unacceptable at Old Trafford, so that’s what he’s aiming for.

“We know the standards, we know the expectations, so we have to win every game. That is what we strive for’, Ten Hag told the BBC.

“We will prepare every game 100 percent and we will see what comes out. Look what happens, but we know what we have to do.’

Ten Hag will be put to the test again on Saturday evening when United travel to Brentford in kick-off at 5.30pm, with the pressure already being great to put in a good result.

There will be a lot of interest in the team the Dutchman chooses, with Cristiano Ronaldo pushing for a return to the starting lineup as his desire to leave the club this summer is becoming less and less likely.

The likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho struggled to make any impact against Brighton as the midfield pair Fred and Scott McTominay received much criticism from club legends.

Anthony Martial missed the opening game of the season and it is not yet clear if he will be fit for the trip to the Bees.
