Eric ten Hag has provided a positive update on the condition of Manchester United‘s squad ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Newcastle, allaying fears Marcel Sabitzer And Raphael Varane.

The Red Devils will have to do without suspended Casemiro for the journey to St James’ Park and there were fears Sabitzer would be unable to come on after missing Austria’s victory over Estonia last Monday after suffering a knee problem had incurred.

Varane, meanwhile, was suffering from a minor injury ahead of the international break that rules him out of United’s FA Cup win over Fulham.

But both players seem to be healthy. Ten Hag confirms he has no new injuries, while Christian Eriksen continues his recovery.

“It is quite positive about all players,” Ten Hag says to MUTV.

Christian Eriksen is back on the field, not yet in team practice, but I expect him next week. [or] weeks, back in team training so will be available for matches again.

So we know how big the impact of Christian Eriksen was on our game, but others like Anthony Martial are also returning in team training.

‘And [there were] luckily no injuries from the internationals. That’s always a concern as a manager when the players leave you, how do you get them back and especially at this stage of the season when it comes to the end, towards the closing stages.

Marcus Rashford was out of the England squad during the international break with a toe injury, but has been fully training since returning from holiday to the United States.

When asked if United’s top scorer is fit enough to take on Newcastle, Ten Hag replied: “I think so.

“He returned to team practice on Friday, so we’re pretty sure he’ll be available for Sunday. So of course we are happy with that, because he is a very important player for us.’

Backup goalkeeper Tom Heaton, meanwhile, will miss the trip to St James’ Park with an ankle problem, while Alejandro Garnacho and Donny van de Beek are both out.

Suspended after being shown a red card against Southampton early last month, Casemiro will also miss games against Brentford mid-week and Everton next weekend, before returning for the first leg of United’s Europa League quarter-final tie with Sevilla.
