EU makes historic decision — end sales of contaminated vehicles by 2035

After the EU government agreed to end sales of contaminated cars and vans by 2035, Green Group’s Transport & Environment (T & E) said it was a game over for internal combustion engines in Europe. -After the European Parliament voted for it earlier this month, emissions come to a deserving conclusion. T & E said the decision would break control of the oil industry over transportation and give Europe a chance to fight decarbonization by 2050.

Julia Poliscanova, Senior Director of Vehicles and Emotions at T & E, said:

“The European government has made a historic decision to end the sale of contaminated cars. Transportation is the biggest source of emissions and cars are the biggest part of the problem. Today, the fight against global warming. Not only is it a big step forward for air pollution and the affordability of electric vehicles. “

Ministers agreed that manufacturers should not receive credit for CO2 targets for electronic fuel-powered vehicles, but the Commission should submit new proposals to allow future use. Said there is. E-fuel-powered vehicles emit far more CO2 and emit as much toxic NOx emissions as gasoline-powered vehicles throughout their life cycle than battery-powered electric vehicles. T & E called on MEP to eliminate the possibility of synthetic fuel loopholes. Synthetic fuels are also costly for drivers and are much less efficient at using renewable energy than direct electrification.

Julia Poliskanova concludes:

“The termination of the combustion engine is great news for the climate. But new fuel proposals are diverted. No more wasting time on electronic fuel for cars and vans, instead for charging deployments, electricity transitions. Focus on re-skilling workers and responsibly procuring battery materials. “

The EU Government will begin negotiations with the European Parliament on the final law. The T & E called on the next Presidency of the Czech Republic of the Council to prioritize reaching an agreement without delay.
