n England star has said the Lionesses need “calmness” to win as the team prepares for the Euro 2022 final om Wembley.

Georgia Stanway added that it was time to “stop talking about how big women’s football is getting, and talk about how big it is” ahead of the team’s game against Germany on Sunday night.

Speaking to reporters, Stanway said among those trying to get tickets to the highly anticipated match was the England men’s team.

In comments to Sky News, she joked, “Sorry guys, we’re all sold out!”

If England see Sunday’s win, it will be the first time either senior national team has been crowned champions of a major tournament since the 1966 World Cup.

“We need to stop talking about how big women’s football is getting, and talk about how big it is,” Stanway said.

“We’re just reaching new levels every time, even if England don’t play the TV numbers are ridiculous.”

Stanway also said a key factor in determining England’s success would be “calm and composure”.

“We just have to be even better on the ball, it’s really up to us.”

England took a stormy win in the final, scoring 20 goals and conceding just one, against Spain in the quarter-finals.

After beating Spain, the squad defeated Sweden 4-0 at Bramall Lane in the semi-finals.

Tickets for Sunday’s final at Wembley are sold out, making it the best-attended Euro match ever for both the men and women.

Stanway, who plays in midfield, also praised head coach Sarina Wiegman, saying: “The most important thing Sarina Wiegman said was at the start – ‘playing for the little girl who wanted to be in our shoes’.

“So I play for the little girl who wanted to play at the start, went to practice, loved it and dreamed of being in our position.”
