Everton signs winger Dwight McNeil to Burnley five-year deal

Everton have signed Burnley winger Dwight McNeil in a deal worth £20million plus add-ons.

The 22-year-old underwent a medical on Wednesday evening and signed a five-year contract with the club until June 2027.

McNeil is the third signing of the Toffees this summer, after ex-Burnley team-mate James Tarkowski and Portuguese defender Ruben Vinagre on loan.

The England U21 international has a lot of Premier League experience and has already played 134 top matches for Burnley. He has missed just two Premier League games since December 2018 and was second only to top-level dribbles last season.

“It’s a great feeling to draw. When I heard about Everton’s interest, I immediately wanted to get it done because of the club and how good the team is,” McNeil told evertontv.

“Speaking to the manager about what they want in the future, it really got me excited and appealed to me. I wanted to be part of it. He knows me as a player, just like [Director of Football] Kevin Thelwell. I want to work hard and do well for the team and the fans.

“I feel like I’m playing under a manager like Frank Lampard, he’s going to help me get my stats up – and that’s what I want to do and improve my game.”

The attacking midfielder, who has seven goals and 17 assists in the Premier League, also caught the eye of London side West Ham and Crystal Palace.

Manager Lampard added: “I have been a great admirer of Dwight for some time now. He has a tremendous amount of talent and is exactly the type of player we want to bring into the squad to help us improve.”
