Ex-F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone is once again gripped by controversy. The British business magnate has been charged with fraud. He has been charged for failing to declare £400m in foreign assets to the government.

Ecclestone was charged Monday by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) following an investigation by Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Andrew Penhale, Chief Prosecutor, said† “The CPS has reviewed a file of evidence from HMRC and has cleared charges against Bernard Ecclestone of false representation fraud related to his failure to report to HMRC the existence of assets abroad believed to be they are worth over £400 million ($475 million).”

Simon York from HMRC said: “We can confirm that an allegation of fraud by false representation has been authorized against Bernard Ecclestone”.
He added, “The criminal charge relates to anticipated tax liabilities arising from more than £400 million in offshore assets that were hidden from HMRC.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Brit said†Often people say or do things without thinking too much. “I probably did the same.”
He added, “People think I’m defending what he did in Ukraine, which I didn’t. I was raised during the war so I know what it’s like and I feel sorry for the people in Ukraine who have to suffer for something they didn’t do .”
