And fans are well aware of the irony of him returning to the club he left not too long ago.

Commenting on social media, one person said: “So we sold Erik Lamela to Sevilla to help fund the signing of Bryan Gil… to now send Gil to Sevilla. Our recruiting team is top notch 🙄”.

Another added: “Great business! £22 million and Lamela in exchange for Gil and yet somehow Sevilla now have Gil. What an embarrassing club we are. We can’t even get the extra £2.5 million spend for Porro. Absolute mess”.

A third replied: “Why don’t we just give Sevilla Kane and Son for free? We gave them £22 million, Lamela and Gil for nothing 🤷‍♂️”.
