Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri says ‘there is no sign for sale’ at Goodison Park despite its recent takeover talks.

Moshiric granted a period of exclusivity to a consortium led by former Manchester United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon, which did not lead to a buyout.

In an open letter to the club’s fans, Moshiri now claims he is only investigating the sale of a ‘minority stake’ and remains committed to fulfilling his promise to Leading Everton to a new £500m stadium.

“There has been a lot of talk lately about investing in our football club – even acquisitions – but I want to make it clear that there is currently no ‘for sale’ sign outside Everton Football Club,” Moshiri wrote.

“It will always be pragmatic to explore all potential investment opportunities and, as I have been transparent, I am actively focused on completing financing for our fantastic new stadium and strengthening the player base and that may include seeking minority investments. . That will continue.

“But I want to reassure you all that Everton Football Club is not for sale. My commitment to the club remains strong and focused and Kevin Thelwell and the chairman are currently working hard to bring in new players to improve Frank Lampard’s roster.”

Everton’s financial position has come under scrutiny during talks with the Premier League about how much they can spend in the current transfer window to comply with FFP rules.

“There will be new signings and I would like to ask supporters to rate us at the end of the transfer window – not now,” added Moshiri.

Moshiri’s statement follows a period in which multiple parties have expressed interest in the Merseyside club.

The consortium led by Kenyon and funded by an American businessman Maciek Kaminski had hoped to reach an agreement to buy Everton on July 21.
