Incredible footage shows a farmer plowing through a field of crops to cut them down just yards from a wall of flames.
Bill Alexander saw the flames approaching houses in Kent and stepped inside to try and reduce how much it could burn.
The fire had already taken nearly 20 acres of lane in Lenham Heath, between Maidstone and Ashford, in Kent, just before 3.15pm yesterday.
It came days after severe fires destroyed homes during last week’s record-breaking heat wave.
The fire in Kent yesterday was finally extinguished with no injuries.
Andy Barr, owner of the farm in Kent in the video, said his “good neighbor” was a “hero.”
He shared a photo on Twitter, saying: ‘Please tell everyone to be careful what they do along roads and paths, 20ha of spring barley in flames.
‘This photo of my son was when the wind turned to my brother’s house, luckily Bill Alexander and Jonny & Ellie from TCAgri saved the day.’
He said that if Mr Alexander had not intervened, the damage could have been even greater.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service said during the blaze: ‘Eight fire engines, all terrain vehicles and a bulk water carrier have been dispatched to reports of a standing crop fire in fields on Lenham Heath between Maidstone and Ashford.
‘We are working hard to get the fire, which covers about eight hectares, under control.
“Smoke from the fire may be visible on the M20 between junctions 8 (Leeds Castle) and 9 (Ashford), road users heading towards Maidstone are asked to take extra care.”
They said in an update at 4:50 pm: ‘The fire has been brought under control and extinguished. The fire brigade rescued people who were in the area.
“There are no reports of injuries.”
