Father of two arrested for throwing acid at his estranged wife after he suspects her of having an affair with another man

A 59-year-old man has been arrested in Tamil Nadu, India for pouring acid on his wife after he suspected her of having an illegal affair.

The suspect identified as Vellu, from the village of Kondathur in Vellore, was arrested on Wednesday, June 29.

Velu and his wife are reported to have been married for 12 years and have two children together, ages 10 and 7.

However, the two have been living separately for the past six years due to a difference of opinion.

A week ago, Velu had approached his wife to reconcile with her, but the meeting spiraled out of control when he began to suspect she was having an affair with another man.

Since then, Velu had argued with his wife and on Wednesday he threw acid at her.

His wife immediately fell to the ground from the burns and began to cry for help. Neighbors who heard the commotion rushed her to a nearby hospital.

Veppankuppam police have arrested Velu based on her complaint. Officials said further investigations are underway.
