FEMAIL reveals the other trailer moments which were cut from the movie

From car chases to hilarious dialogue, movie trailers are supposed to tease the most exciting moments from a film ahead of it’s release.

However it emerged this week that two Ana De Armas fans are suing Universal Studios for $5million after accusing it of ‘false representation’ because the star’s role was cut from the 2019 film Yesterday but footage of her was kept in its trailer.

The Cuban-Spanish actress, 34, appears for 15 seconds in the 210-second trailer, but did not make the final cut of the movie.

Here, FEMAIL reveals the other scenes which ended up on the editing room floor after they were featured in the teaser.

FEMAIL reveals the incredible scenes which were featured in movie trailers – but were not featured in the final cut of the film (pictured, Spiderman and Iron Man flying through the sky in New York)

1. Spider-Man: Homecoming

One of the most poignant scenes in the trailer for Spiderman: Homecoming saw Peter Parker and Iron Man flying through the sky of New York side by side.

It was meant to come after a scene in which Tony Stark helped Peter stop the Staten Island Ferry from sinking.

However director Jon Watts told Screen Crush the shot ‘was never in the movie’ but it was ‘still a cool shot.’

He explained: ‘I think what happened was in the very first trailer they wanted a shot of Spider-Man and Iron Man flying together.

‘And they were going to use something from the Staten Island Ferry [scene], but it just didn’t look that great – the background plate, because the Staten Island terminal is a very simple building. It almost looks like an unrendered 3D object.

‘So I think I was like, ‘Let’s just put them in Queens. Let’s use that as a backdrop’.

‘Because we couldn’t just create a whole new shot, so let’s just use one of these shots of the subway – put them in there.’

‘I feel a little weird that there’s a shot in the trailer that’s not in the movie at all, but it’s a cool shot. It’s funny, I forgot that we did that.’

2. Mission: Impossible — Fallout

The teaser ended with a breathtaking scene in which Tom’s character Ethan Hunt is flying a helicopter towards a jack-knifing helicopter.

And while the teaser may have left fans with their jaws on the floor, it never made the final film.

Writer and director Christopher McQuarrie told Digital Spy there was ‘too much action in the movie’ which made it necessary to remove some scenes from the teaser.

He added: ‘We put together this big, giant film and we were testing the movie, we tested it four times before we finally finished it, and there was just so much action in the movie.

‘We had to choose what was going to stay and what will go.’

3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2

The final installation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows delighted fans of the wizarding franchise from around the world when it was released in 2011.

However there were moments from the trailer which didn’t end up in the film.

One shocking moment saw Voldemort and Harry confronting each other in the clocktower at Hogwarts.

As Voldemort grabbed Harry’s face, he asked: ‘Why do you live?’

Meanwhile the young wizard told him: ‘Because I have something worth living for.’

Instead, it showed the director offering the viewer a guided tour around the Bates Motel.

He shows the audience around the property, which he introduces as the scene of the crime.

Viewers are taken up to the house, and introduced to the stairs, where ‘at the top of these stairs, that’s where the second murder took place.’

Then there is a tour of ‘the woman’s bedroom’,  the bathroom, reception, and across to cabin number one.

Once inside, viewers are told the bathroom is ‘all tidied up now. Big difference. You should have seen the blood.’

5. Get Out

Get Out, written and directed by Jordan Peele, was the sleeper hit of 2017.

His low-budget chiller scored $30.5 million to snatch top spot at the weekend box office.

The plot follows a black man named Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), who travels upstate with his white girlfriend Rose to meet her parents (Bradley Whitford and Catherine Keener) – and things get weird.

‘Do they know I’m black?’ Chris asks his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) as they get ready to leave their city apartment for a weekend at her parents’ rural estate.

At the end of the trailer however, is one dramatic scene which never made the final cut.

Chris is seen driving away from the house in the pitch dark, before he appears to be attacked by a skeletal moose.

6. Frozen

It’s not just actors who have their scenes cut from blockbuster movies – with moments also removed from animated children’s films ahead of the release.

In an early trailer for Disney’s hit film Frozen, Anna can be heard saying: ‘That’s no blizzard; that’s my sister!’

Meanwhile Kristoff can be seen hugging the adorable snowman Olaf.

However there is no scene similar to that in the film.

The only similar moments are Anna dying and trying to make it to Elsa, separated from Sven and Kristoff.

The 1 minute 14 second teaser featured nothing more than Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 being assembled.

He was seen being built on a futuristic production line, beneath which played dramatic music to build the suspense.

The trailer finished showing a topless Arnold clenching his muscles for the audience.

However no such scenes were ever shown in the 1991 movie.

8. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

There were various shots and lines which were removed from the editing, including a moment where Felicity Jones turns towards camera and says: “This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.’

Meanwhile in another moment, Krennic walks through water, while in a third, the group running across the beach with the plans.

In an interview with Fandango, the director Gareth Edwards explained the deleted scenes would not be included in any extended cuts of the film.

He said: ‘There’s not an individual scene that you can drag and drop and put on a Blu-ray, there are little things that would come and go during the process of postproduction, but they’re not scenes.

‘They’re more moments within the scenes or a single shot. So it’s impossible to be able to do that, and that’s why the decision was made.’

9. The Guardians of the Galaxy

One of the trailers for 2005’s King Kong featured a scene which nodded to the 1993 original.

In the clip, which featured Jack Black and Naomi Watts, the characters are searching for the perfect location in which to take a photograph.

Naomi’s character Ann Darrow poses in front of the camera while shooting early movie footage on the island, while Jack, playing Carl Denham, instructs her.

He tells her: ‘You’re feeling uneasy Ann. The feeling is growing, it’s washing over you.’

At one stage he encourages her to ‘Scream for your life!’

After she obliges, there is an unexpected roar from somewhere within in the jungle, leaving her shaking with fear.

11. Batman Returns

However there are moments from the film’s original trailer which didn’t make the final cut.

Among them, is a moment where she is lying on a bed, laughing madly and snorting with joy.

While she is seen reclining on the bed in one scene, the hysterical laughter isn’t featured in the movie.

So CAN filmmakers be sued for ‘deceptive’ trailers?

In a new ruling, US federal judge Stephen Wilson says movie studios can be sued for false advertising if their trailers are deceptive.

Conor Woulfe and Peter Michael Rosza accuse Universal Studios of fraud after they paid $3.99 to rent Yesterday on Amazon Prime in January to see the James Bond star after she appeared in the film’s trailer.

Universal claimed trailers had ‘free speech’ protection under the First Amendment of the US Constitution and should be considered ‘non-commercial’.

But Judge Wilson ruled that they were subject to commercial speech regulations, including the California False Advertising Law and the state’s Unfair Competition Law, reported Variety

He wrote: ‘Universal is correct that trailers involve some creativity and editorial discretion, but this creativity does not outweigh the commercial nature of a trailer.

‘At its core, a trailer is an advertisement designed to sell a movie by providing consumers with a preview of the movie.’

The film studio said the ruling could be burdensome and lead to lawsuits from disappointed fans, pointing out that other films, such as Jurassic Park, also featured footage not shown in the final cut of the movie.

The film stars Himesh Patel as musician Jack Malik, who discovers that following a mysterious worldwide blackout everyone has forgotten the existence of The Beatles

After reintroducing their songs to the world he shoots to fame.

Miss de Armas, who has 8.7million Instagram followers and also featured in the Marylin Monroe movie Blonde, was due to play his initial love interest Roxane and would be serenaded by Jack singing The Beatles song Something on James Corden’s show.

But writer Richard Curtis cut her role from the final film, saying fans would be upset that her character would take away from Malik’s primary love interest Ellie, played by Lily James.

Mr Woulfe and Mr Rosza claim the $5million lawsuit is equal to the number of fans who will have been disappointed by Miss de Armas not making the final edit.

Judge Wilson said the ruling was limited to whether an actor or scene would be in the movie and ‘nothing else’.

Mr Curtis told CinemaBlend: ‘That was a very traumatic cut because she was brilliant in it.

‘You know, it’s one of those things where it’s some of our favourite scenes from the film, but we had to cut them for the sake of the whole.’
