Female carer dies after being set on fire in a crowded bus in a sick hate crime attack when police arrested 33-year-old man

A WOMAN who was set on fire while on a bus in a suspected hate crime has died of her injuries.

Police have launched a murder investigation after woman in her 20s was assaulted by another passenger while on her way to work TorontoCanada.

Police allege that a man poured a liquid over her shortly after midday on June 17 before setting her on fire.

The attacker then fled as others on the bus rushed to put out the fire and help the woman, who worked as a carer.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition with horrific “life-changing” second and third degree burns.

A 33-year-old man was arrested in what police described as a suspected hate crime.

Agent Alex Li said: “The man would have poured some sort of liquid substance or accelerator on this woman and then ignited that substance, starting a fire and burning the female victim.”

The man, Tenzin Norbu, was charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, general nuisance endangering the life, safety or health of the public and mischief of more than $5,000 (£4,100) interfering with property .

Tragically, the woman died this week from her shocking injuries.

Police say Norbu’s charges are now being updated after her death.

Police described the attack as “random” and an “isolated incident”, but said “the investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offense”.

After the harrowing incident, the victim’s sister, Dawa, launched a fundraising pagesaid her sibling “had suffered complete burns, is in critical condition and is on a ventilator”.

Dawa said her sister was one of the ways to work “as a professional caregiver when she was attacked by a stranger who threw lighter fluid on her and set her on fire.”

She added: “My sister is a caregiver who has lived a life of service to others.

“Right now we really need support from all of you on her long journey ahead.”
