Fern Britton wished she could have ‘persevered’ with Phil Vickery’s marriage

The 64-year-old television host was married to the This morning chef 20 years before the couple announced their split in 2020.

Looking back on the end of her marriage during a conversation with Fine Magazine, Britton admitted she didn’t want to become the “poster girl” for divorce, but urged others to do so when faced with a “crossroads”.

Since her breakup, Britton is enjoying a new chapter in her life.

She has since released a new book and has no plans to date anytime soon.

“This new chapter comes at the right time for me. However, I don’t want to be the billboard for divorce because a lot of people are going through the same thing,” she told the publication.

She added: “A lot of times the kids go out of the house and you look at each other and say, ‘Ah, where do we go from here?’ I only wish I was the kind of person who could have kept that up, but I couldn’t.”

Britton also urged others to consider their options if they are in an unhappy relationship.

She continued: “If you find yourself in a situation where you are at a crossroads, have courage. Look inside yourself and ask, “How am I feeling?” If the answer is “pretty depressed,” you don’t have to adapt just because you think other people want to. Do it for yourself.”

At the time of their divorce, both Britton and Vickery shared a joint post on social media claiming they shared a good friendship.

“We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children. We would appreciate if our privacy is respected at this time. Thank you for your continued kindness and support,” the message read.

Britton and Vickery are parents to a 21-year-old daughter named Winnie.

She also shares twin sons and a daughter with her first husband Clive.
