A MASSIVE fire has ripped apart a warehouse next to a famous market, sending a cloud of smoke hundreds of feet into the air.
100 firefighters and 15 fire engines are currently working on the monster inferno in south London, the London Fire Brigade says.
Emergency services were called to Brixton Market on Electric Lane at 8.58pm on Saturday evening after reports of a fire.
Videos shared on social media show emergency services frantically trying to clear passersby from the scene as panic breaks out amid the blaze.
A thick plume of black smoke can be seen rising from miles into the sky above the market.
The fire reportedly broke out in a three-storey warehouse.
Electric Lane, a popular nightspot a stone’s throw from Brixton Tube Station, is closed.
MyLondon reported how bystanders said the fire broke out at the entrance to Electric Lane and appeared to be in a storage area.
In a statement, the London Fire Brigade said: “Fifteen fire engines and about 100 firefighters are fighting a fire at Electric Lane in Brixton.
“A three-storey warehouse is on fire.
The Brigade’s 999 control officers answered 53 calls to the fire.
“The brigade was called in at 2058. Fire crews from Clapham, West Norwood, Peckham, Old Kent Road, Chelsea and surrounding fire stations are on the scene.
“The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.”
