Five people were taken to Palmerston North Hospital after the crash.

Five people have been injured in a single-vehicle accident in Marton, one of them in critical condition.

A police spokesman said he was made aware of an accident on State Highway 1, near Marton, about 4:15 a.m. Sunday after a vehicle went off the road.

Five people were involved; four were in a moderate condition and one person was critical.

Police said all five were transported to Palmerston North Hospital.

Fire and Emergency NZ said they were alerted to the crash at 4.13am.

Two fire trucks were present. The road was not blocked and emergency services cleared the area by 5 a.m.
