Moroccan footballer Sofian Kiyine has been rushed to hospital after a horrific car accident in which he crashed through the wall of a sports hall in Belgium.

Kiyine – who plays for OH Leuven in the Belgian Pro League – seemed to lose control of his vehicle at a roundabout in Liège.

There were children present in the sports hall at the time of the crash, but the young people had retreated to the changing rooms moments before and fortunately no one else was injured.

Kiyine was in hospital on Thursday evening after the crash, but his condition is not life-threatening.

A video shows the footballer’s car hurtling down a road as he approaches a roundabout.

The car then enters the roundabout and flies through the air before entering the sports hall at breakneck speed, leaving a huge hole in the building.

Belgian authorities are reportedly investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for OH Leuven – owned by Leicester owner King Power – said: ‘The club has been informed that Sofian Kiyine was involved in a serious car accident near Liège last night.

“Kiyine has been taken to the emergency department of the nearest hospital for further examination.

“He is not in danger. Fortunately, no other vehicles or persons were involved in the accident.

The club is waiting for more clarity about the exact circumstances of the accident before responding further.

“We wish Sofian a speedy recovery.”

It’s unclear what speed Kiyine was traveling at when he crashed, but the speed limit on the road he was traveling on is 55 mph.

The Louis Melin sports hall hosts mini football, basketball and gymnastics but will probably be unusable for a long period of time after the damage caused by the crash.

Kiyine, 25, was born in Belgium and came through the youth academy at Standard Liège.

After moving to now-defunct Italian side Chievo, the midfielder also played for Lazio, Salernitana and Venezia before joining OH Leuven last summer.

He has represented Morocco’s Under-20 and Under-23 teams, but has yet to make his full debut for the Atlas Lions.
