Ford has confirmed local pricing and specifications for the Mach-E electric SUV due here in Q2 2023.

Kiwi buyers will get three models, starting with the Mach-E RWD model, which gets a 75.7kWh battery, good for a claimed range of 440km. Next up is the Mach-E AWD, gaining the larger 98.7kWh battery pack and the highest potential range of the three at 550km. Finally, there’s the Mach-E GT AWD, the most powerful model of the range, using the larger battery pack for a range of 490km.

Ford recently increased the usable capacity of both batteries in 2022 models to 70kWh and 90kWh respectively via software tweaks. Manufacturers generally keep around 10% of gross battery capacity in reserve to protect the health and longevity of the battery.

Prices for the RWD model start at below that crucial Clean Car Programme threshold at $79,990 drive-away, while the AWD comes in at $109,990 plus on-roads. The range-topping Mach-E GT will cost $124,990 plus on-roads.

Power and performance have also been confirmed, with the single-motor RWD offering 198kW/430Nm and a 0-100kph sprint of 6.1 seconds. Adding a second motor to the AWD model bumps output to 258kW/560Nm and drops the 0-100kph time to 5.1 seconds, while the GT really turns up the wick with 358kW/860Nm and a 3.7 second run to 100kph.

Interestingly, the GT has more torque than any production Ford road-vehicle ever offered to customers in New Zealand, with a rear-biased all-wheel drive system. The other AWD Mach E has a less rear-focused system.

The AWD also gets a powered bootlid, eight-way powered front seats, a fixed panoramic roof and an upgraded Bang and Olufsen 10-speaker sound system.
