A former principal who was linked to the Atlanta Public Schools fraud scandal a decade ago has been spared a lighter sentence in court.

On June 28, Judge Jerry Baxter in the Fulton County High Court agreed to Dana Evans’ request to have her jail removed from her sentence.

The judge also halved the number of hours of community service ordered by the court that Evans should serve, leaving her with 500.

Evans, a former principal of Dobbs Elementary School, was previously sentenced in 2015 to one year in prison and a four-year probation.

A jury has found Evans and 10 other local educators guilty of racketeering, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

“I think she took responsibility as opposed to just a whole bunch of people who didn’t do it,” Judge Baxter of Evans said Tuesday.

According to reports, the latter also knows her lack of action in the fraud scandal as “naive negligence”.

“I take full responsibility for the events that bring us here today,” Evans said. “Although I did not cheat, I did not stop cheating, which was my job as principal, and I’m sorry for that.”

Bait MADAMENOIRE previously reported, Evans has worked in the nonprofit sector since her conviction and has made efforts to support low-income families and refugees in Georgia.

An investigation in 2011 revealed widespread fraud over the Atlanta Public Schools system, in which administrators, such as Evans, “knew or should have known” about answers to standardized tests changed by the city’s educators. The scandal put an asterisk on APS system.

Following the handing over of Evans’ lighter sentence, Fulton County DA’s office attorney Kevin Armstrong said: “Every piece of objective evidence indicates that she [Evans] was aware of it. “

In addition, the attorney alleged Evans robbed Atlanta students of an education they owed.
