Continued competition for workers among manufacturers means Foxconn’s summer hiring wave for iPhone 14 workers is once again accompanied by higher bonuses.

With fewer people seeking jobs in manufacturing assembly, there is a shrinking labor pool and technology companies are in fierce competition for workers. Apple’s iPhone maker Foxconn has been recruiting early for the peak summer months, but now it’s ramping up its incentives.

According to the South China Morning Mail, new workers at the Zhengzhou plant will receive a bonus equivalent to $1,345 if they stay longer than four months. Previously, the amount was about $1,193 at this stage a year earlier, but later peaked at $1,521 in August 2021.

Some form of bonus for new hires is common, but now Foxconn is also offering returning employees $1,420, again if they stay longer than four months. The company has also offered returning employees the same salary they had before they left.

the South China Morning Mail claims that the Zhengzhou factory accounts for 80% of iPhones released worldwide.

The hiring is a few weeks later than in years before COVID started to hit. The 2020 crop of iPhones was released a little later than the normal cadence of previous years. The 2021 lineup returned to a more traditional release window — but with more retail restrictions than pre-COVID.
