Fury of the Gods Trailer Debuts at Comic-Con – The Hollywood Reporter

Shazam! Anger of the Gods brought thunder to Hall H on Saturday, with star Zachary Levi showing off the film’s first trailer.

“I’ve missed you guys so much, I can’t even tell you,” Levi told an energetic Hall H, taking over the first panel of the day, after a Shazam! sizzle reel shown.

Shazam!, released in 2019, was a modest hit by superhero standards at $365.9 million, but was loved and praised for bringing a youthful energy to the genre. It told the story of a foster child named Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who transformed into the hero Shazam (Levi). In the final act, Billy fought alongside his foster siblings – who transformed into adult stars like him. This time around, there’s more screen time for the adult versions of Freddy Freeman (Adam Brody), Darla Dudley (Meagan Good), Eugene Choi (Ross Butler), Mary Bromfield (Grace Fulton), and Pedro Peña (DJ Cotrona)

During the panel, some plot details were revealed, including that there will be a time jump between the first film and the sequel and that the Daughters of Atlas will be the villains, led by franchise newcomer Helen Mirren.

The panel also saw the debut of the new trailer for the superhero movie. Backed by Eminem’s “Business,” the trailer sees Shazam questioning his place as a superhero, lamenting, “I don’t deserve these powers, if I’m being honest.” The impostor syndrome continues as he crashes into buildings and cars, comparing himself to Batman and Aquaman.

But he is called into action when Miren’s Hespera chases after him and his super-powered friends, saying, “Children have stolen the powers of all the gods.” When confronted by Hespera, Shazam talks about his love for Fast & Furious movies (coincidentally, Mirren also appears in that franchise) and appeals to his “family,” but they are no-shows.

The panel marked DC Films’ first trip to Hall H since 2018. The studio sat out of 2019, the most recent Con due to covid shuttering in 2020 and 2021.
